Dr. Reza Najafi, an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Western University, directs an interdisciplinary research program that spans engineering, climate change, hydrology and hydraulics, risk assessment, data analytics, and statistics. His work is dedicated to characterizing the complex interrelationships between hazards and infrastructure systems in a changing climate. Serving as an Associate Editor for the Water Resources Research journal (AGU), Najafi brings two decades of combined experience in industry and academia to his research.He has (co)authored over 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals, supervised more than 40 graduate students, and secured over $7 million in research funding. In 2017, he received the Best Technical Paper Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Najafi is also a lead author for the upcoming Canada Climate Change Report.As a co-founder and co-director of the Centre for Multihazard Risk and Resilience (CMRR) at Western, Najafi leads a collaborative initiative that involves 20 faculty members from three different faculties. His research extends beyond academia, fostering partnerships with various stakeholders, including industry, government, and Indigenous communities. This holistic approach supports the practical impact of his team’s work in addressing real-world challenges.
